Although you won't find the words "church member" in the Bible, the New Testament clearly shows that where local churches gathered together, there was a group of elders serving a specific group of believers.
These believers had given themselves to following their leaders, and so all the leaders knew who they were serving, and all the believers knew who they were following.
We live in a world where it's very easy to become a consumer-Christian - the kind of believer that Jesus warned against becoming when he told Peter three times in John 21 to prove his profession of love for him by pouring out his life on behalf of other people around him. We have found that in our culture, becoming a church member is a good way of committing to serving a particular community of believers.
We run regular Membership Courses, which are a no-commitment opportunity to find out more about Queens Road Church and whether this is the kind of place which you feel you could make your spiritual home. The Membership Courses run upstairs during the Sunday morning services, and finish with lunch together, which we provide.
The way it works is that you come along to our 9.30am service to join in the worship as usual but at 10am you will be directed out of the service to an upstairs meeting room.
The format of the day is as follows:
09.30-10.00 attend worship at the first service
10:00-11:00 Session 1 (during the sermon of meeting 1)
11:00-11:30 Coffee break
11:30-13:00 Session 2 (during meeting 2)
13:00-13:45 Lunch
If you have kids out in the kidswork, you will need to collect them at the end of the first meeting (11:00), look after them during the coffee break, and then re-register them for the second meeting (11:30). You can then go and collect them at the end of the second meeting (13:00) to come and join us for lunch (which we provide). Please let us know if you are a vegetarian or have any dietary requirements at the time of booking.
The next membership course is on Sunday 26th February 2012. If you wish to come along, please book in below:
