Da Vinci Code Triggered Search

"I can't believe how much my life's changed"

Unanswered questions led me from The Da Vinci Code to an Alpha Course at Queens Road Church.

When I look back over the last few years, I can't believe how much my life has changed. I was working in an office and about to buy my first flat. Everything seemed okay and I didn't realise that deep down I must have been searching for that missing something.

Like everyone else I'd really got into the Dan Brown books. I'd read The Da Vinci Code and started on his next book, Angels and Demons. I came to the bit in the book where one of the characters asks a priest about suffering. My mum has had Multiple Sclerosis (MS) for a number of years and I'd always taken it as just a fact of life. But suddenly I realised that there was more to it than that; I was looking for answers - I wanted to know why my mum was suffering.

One of my colleagues was a Christian and I soon found myself bombarding him with questions every time he was in the office. He was happy to talk about his faith but my questions kept on coming until in the end he suggested that I did an Alpha course.

I went online to find out more. I came across the Queen Road Church website and emailed the church. They sent me some information about the next course and I decided to sign up. I went along every week and asked lots of questions, but no one minded at all - it was great. On the Alpha Saturday everything fell into place for me. I prayed and other people prayed for me and suddenly it felt as if a fog had cleared.

I started going to QRC on Sundays and helping out on another course called Just Looking. I got baptised in May 2006 as I wanted to make a public declaration about my faith. Becoming a Christian didn't suddenly solve all my problems but it has given me a real sense of peace that I never had before.
