About QRC
Queens Road Church was planted out of a great Christian revival which swept London under the nineteenth-century preacher Charles Spurgeon. With thousands of Londoners coming to Christ at his church at Elephant & Castle, Charles Spurgeon sent a group of believers to begin a new Baptist church in Wimbledon in 1872. Nearly 150 years later, QRC is still going strong!
Church history geeks can download the blow-by-blow account here, but over the years QRC has itself planted more churches across London: in Barnet, Kingston, Colliers Wood, Sutton, Morden, Cheam and Merton Park. In the 1990s, the church became a magnet for people across London who wanted to experience more of the power of the Holy Spirit. Today, as we focus on "Loving Jesus and Living His Mission", we still attract a great crowd of people to the radical teaching of Jesus Christ and to his call to live the Christian life to the full.
We are an evangelical church who believe that the Bible is God's Word. We are a Jesus-focused church who believe that Jesus lived a perfect life, died a violent death, was raised to glorious life, and ascended to heaven to rule forever. We are a radical church who believe that these facts should change everything about the way we live today. We are a grace-filled church who believe no one is bad enough to be beyond the reach of God's love and mercy. We are a charismatic church who believe that God fills people with his Holy Spirit and does extraordinary things through very ordinary people. We are part of the Newfrontiers family of churches, the Baptist Union and the Evangelical Alliance.
We believe that cities are not changed by finger-pointing critics but by people who model a different way of living. We are a bunch of ordinary radicals, trying to live out the refreshingly different lifestyle of Jesus in the midst of 21st-century London, and to change our great city for good from the inside out.
We have new people coming to join us every Sunday to see what God is doing among us. The best way to find out what Queens Road Church is truly like is to come and see for yourself. Our church was birthed out of one of London's greatest revivals, but we believe that the best is yet to come!
